The project explores the surface as something that separates and combines, as a portal between different worlds. The skin as the surface of the human that separates the body from the atmosphere. The ocean surface as the skin of the ocean. The hull on a ship that separates the ship from the sea and enables humans to travel on water.
This work takes off at the beach, on the coast line where the ocean meets land and land meets ocean. It's a barrier and a portal. There’s an old saying that goes “The sea gives, the sea takes“. Everything passes through this portal.
This work was made and exhibited during a stay at SÍM Recidency in Reykjavik, Iceland in September 2024.
